New Arrival: Yoko Ono's work born from her own experience

posted on Oct. 12, 2012
Sorry for the long absence of new works, but from now we will regularly upload new works! And this time, we are proud to introduce you two works by Yoko Ono, which represent her life.

"From my window" is a work you can see how she was criticized for speaking out and marrying John Lennon by projecting herself in the witch trial occurred in 1692.

In Japan, there is a saying "the proverbial nail sticking up ready to be hammered." People take this as a problem which prevents a new business or technology to be born in Japan since we need seeds to grow our economy. Okay, it must be a problem and super harsh for the one who is standing out. But looking at Yoko Ono who is 79 years old this year, it may be more important to overcome all backlashes and never be afraid of being yourself. Life is not easy but things may change if you stick to your idea and live longer.

"Vertical memory" is a work representing 21 men who had memorial relation in Ono's life. It starts from a doctor who delivered her. Her words come in a pair of one same image. It is blur photo of her father, husband John Lennon and her son Sean Lennon manipulated in one.

Doctor IX
He closed my eyes. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" I said.
"You can't close my mind's eye!"

Facebook asks us to share our everyday life to friends or someone else. Ono's words are just like someone's feed which flow in my facebook feed. However, in the section of "artist", Ono kept it blank. There must be a deep strong memory lying but she kept it a secret. We use social networks to share our lives and it looks as if we are all open. But maybe, the most important things are still hidden in ourselves. Many words could be hidden under the SNS wall.

How about you? Do you share everything? Me? No, I don't. But I love to know someone's thoughts brought out from their hearts.
