Tomoo Gokita
Born in Tokyo in 1969. Gokita had his first major exhibition at Tokyo's Parco Gallery in 2000, with releasing his remarkable book 'Lingerie Wrestling' published by Little More. At that time he was mostly making drawings, but he was also experimenting of painting, which led to the development of his distinctive, freeform black and white images. This formulated his unique style of interceding abstraction and figurative forms. In 2006, Gokita had a solo show at ATM gallery of New York and in the following year at the Honor Fraser Gallery of Los Angeles. Gokita also participated in group shows at Berlin’s Peres Projects, as well as New York’s Dietch Projects. His reviews have appeared in the New York Times on two separate occasions which instantly acclaimed him to international status. Additionally, Gokita’s works have been shown at the New York Armory Show, Miami’s Nada Art Fair and London’s Frieze Art Fair. In 2008, Gokita held another solo exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery, which made a striking impact on the Japanese contemporary art world, follow to solo shows at ATM in the spring and Honor Fraser in the fall of 2009.

- Artist talk titled "Artist studios today" by Kohei Nawa, Yusuke Komuta and Naoki Tomita was held at G-Tokyo. As we may imagine as a typical artist who works lonely in a studio, their styles are not like that. Nawa's studio works as a team to solve problems and respect each abilities to overcome any difficulties. Other two young painters have opened a new space last year and looking for their new way as a creation space.
