Before we enter the new future, isn't there a necessity to reflect on the history of mankind? And if so, how should we do it? Morimura asks, and answers them in the form of self-portraits. Posing as the great figures of the 20th century, he imagines how the last 100 years would look like through their eyes. But it was not as easy as it seemed to be. It was not enough to just imitate their appearance. To understand what they may have really thought about our era, Morimura also had to know what had happened in their times as deeply as though he had lived it himself.

When you see the artwork from a different direction, another face of Einstein comes out. This artwork is made of lenticular lens.
"Mona Lisa"
This artwork is part of a series of pieces in which Morimura pretends to be famous paintings. To prepare himself to pose as the Mona Lisa, he looked not only at the original Mona Lisa but also her imitations. The colours of the original piece have degraded, and he thought imitations could lead him to better understand the original artwork and teach him about the times. Look at the eyes of Morimura's Mona Lisa. The right eye stares directly at the camera while the left eye looks off to the left, and both eyes were taken separately. Morimura then combined them into one picture to create this portrait.
