Kanako Sasaki
Born 1976 in Miyagi Prefecture. Studies Journalism at New York’s Ithaca College in 2001. During her studies abroad, she considers that art may be able to convey things in ways that words cannot, and later attends the School of Visual Arts to receive her master’s degree in Photography.
Sasaki traverses the world as if on a search, utilizing the memories and events connected to the general and personal histories of different locations, and merges them with her personal memories and accomplishments to create new imagery in her photographs and videos. Through her creative technique, the historical narratives immediately become more familiar and her individual developments are dramatized. She is an artist who conveys to us the world’s truths in a way that mass media cannot.
