- Akira Ikezoe
- Born in 1979, Kohchi prefecture, Japan. He currently lives and works in Tokyo. He holds a BA from Tama Art University. He received the Tomio Koyama Gallery Award and Gallery Naruyama Award at GEISAI #10 in 2006, which is an art fair founded by Takashi Murakami aiming to give a chance for the emerging artists to show their works. Ikezoe also had an show at Esso gallery, New York, in 2008 and 2009.
Ikezoe draws a human with muscular and strong body. He was inspired by the master artist Michelangelo who draws human with every muscle precisely. For Ikezoe, Michelangelo's expression of body looked unreal and abnormal. Ikezoe saw the adoration of people who dreams their perfect body in it.
Nature such as trees, leaves and animals often comes in to Ikezoe's artwork. People are now trying to control the nature. Breeded dogs, human body done with the plastic surgery or artificial rain at the Beijing Olympic. The nature we should respect are under these secondarily-manufactured nature. Maybe just the spirit will remain there.
